Singer/songwriter/guitarist Lisa McCormick is a mainstay of the indie singer/songwriter underground, where her strong, clear voice, and smart, sexy lyrics have earned her a loyal following. The Brattleboro Reformer’s Dave Madeloni hailed Lisa’s “Mystery Girl” as “the quintessential "make-out" album - one that in a perfect world, would be the talk of the town.”
Lisa’s latest, “Talisman Groove”, features her signature smart sexy themes, and sultry vocals, spiced with exotic world music influences. “Think ‘Mystery Girl’, with a rail pass,” McCormick says of this new collection, which draws from a variety of musical influences, including Latin, Middle Eastern, Reggae, and Tango flavors.
Multi-instrumentalist T-Bone Wolk, saxophonist Erik Lawrence, percussionist Steve Leicach, cellist Sabine Rhyne, trombonist Dan DeWalt, and jazz guitarist Draa Hobbs, each with strong ties to southern Vermont, contributed to the project. Also featured is renowned cutting-edge drummer, Allison Miller (Natalie Merchant, Ani DiFranco) “Mystery Girl” drummer, Michael Tate (3D), plus a cameo appearance by McCormick’s musical mentor, veteran folk/rock icon Jonathan Edwards("Sunshine").
Recorded at Northern Track Studio in Wilmington, VT and Hidden Drive Studio in Brattleboro, VT, “Talisman Groove” was co-produced and mixed by engineer/producer Julian McBrowne. Offerings Jewelry contributed the cover Goddess face, with graphic design by Thrasher Graphics in Brattleboro. The composition phase of “Talisman Groove” was supported in part by a Creation Grant from the Vermont Arts Council.
